INCOME LOSS & FINANCIAL RESILIENCE

When a customer’s income changes, how you support them matters too.

When someone loses a job or experiences reduced income, the impact goes beyond an instalment or payment date. It also changes their ability to prioritize expenses, understand protections, discuss obligations and rebuild income. YoFWD is developing programs that support this process from the person’s perspective.

Income loss is more than a payment problem.

Job loss or reduced income can create immediate pressure around essential expenses and obligations.

A lender can address the credit and contractual side, but rebuilding income is a different problem. YoFWD is designed to complement the institution’s own assistance, servicing, insurance or protection and restructuring processes by helping the person understand their situation and build a path toward income recovery.

YoFWD does not decide credit terms, provide credit, restructure debt or determine insurance coverage.

See how we approach rebuilding the next stage

Support is not collections.

The institution may fund or sponsor access, but guidance should remain centered on the participant’s needs and decisions. YoFWD should not be positioned as a collections channel, and individual guidance outputs should not automatically become inputs to collections, underwriting or credit decisions.

  • The person retains autonomy.

The person decides which options to explore and which actions to take.

  • Sponsorship does not grant automatic access to someone’s financial life.

Personal conversations, budgets and decisions remain private by default.

  • The purpose of any information exchange must be clear from the start.

Any sharing of individual information requires a clear purpose, appropriate consent or authorization, and agreed boundaries.

First understand the pressure. Then rebuild capacity.

Immediate financial stability

  • Understand the current income change
  • Prioritize essential expenses and upcoming obligations
  • Identify questions about possible protections, insurance or options to verify with the relevant institution or insurer
  • Prepare conversations with creditors or lenders
  • Understand proposals before accepting commitments

Rebuild income

  • Identify capabilities, tasks, expertise and constraints
  • Read market demand and barriers
  • Explore plausible work and income paths
  • Test options before major retraining or time investments
  • Turn a chosen direction into next actions

The order and relevance of these steps depend on each person. YoFWD does not replace financial, legal, insurance or other specialized advice where it is needed.

Protections only help if a person knows they exist and how to verify them.

Depending on the product, contract and country, credit products may include unemployment, payment-protection, income-protection or related coverage. YoFWD can help a person identify questions, gather relevant non-sensitive information and understand the next procedural steps. It does not determine coverage, promise claim approval, act as an insurer or broker, or submit claims.

  • Is any protection attached?

Confirm with the institution or insurer whether the product includes protection.

  • What event activates coverage?

Ask what conditions the applicable contract sets.

  • Which documents or deadlines should I confirm?

Identify requirements and dates to verify with the appropriate party.

  • Who should I verify this with?

Find the authorized channel at the institution or insurer.

There are several moments when an institution may choose to offer support.

  • Job loss reported by the customer

When the person reports a meaningful change in their employment situation.

  • A significant reduction in income

When the person’s ability to meet priorities and obligations changes.

  • A request for assistance or restructuring

When the customer asks about options available from their institution.

  • Activation of or questions about a protection

When the person needs to verify whether protection exists and what process applies.

  • Preventive support for customers anticipating change

When someone expects a transition and wants to prepare early.

Eligibility criteria for a pilot should be defined with the institution and respect the agreed rules, permissions and purpose.

An institution can fund access without automatically seeing the personal process.

A pilot or program can agree on appropriate scope and indicators without opening each participant’s individual process.

The institution may agree on

  • Eligible customer group or cohort
  • Countries, duration and access window
  • Program scope and communications
  • Aggregate or program-level indicators that are explicitly agreed and appropriate

The participant keeps private by default

  • Personal conversations
  • Detailed personal budget
  • Individual career hypotheses
  • Personal recommendations and decisions
  • Documents or sensitive information not explicitly authorized for sharing

Individual information is not shared automatically. Any exchange must follow the purpose, consent or authorization, and boundaries agreed for the pilot or program.

A useful pilot starts with clear boundaries and objectives.

  • Who do we want to support?

Define the segment, geography and situation.

  • When does support begin?

After a customer reports an income change, on request or at another agreed trigger.

  • What should the program address?

Clarity and stability, protection questions, transition and income recovery, or a combination.

  • What information can each party see?

Agree consent, privacy and sponsor boundaries.

  • How will we evaluate usefulness?

Participation, engagement, agreed milestones, participant feedback or other pre-agreed indicators.

Metrics are agreed before the pilot. YoFWD does not present reduced arrears, payment agreements or income recovery as proven results.

Clear boundaries build trust.

YoFWD can help

  • Provide structure after income loss
  • Prepare questions and conversations
  • Identify protections to verify
  • Connect capabilities with possible paths to rebuild income
  • Turn exploration into next steps

YoFWD does not

  • Lend money or extend credit
  • Set or modify loan terms
  • Negotiate or guarantee restructurings or settlements
  • Determine insurance coverage or guarantee claims
  • Guarantee employment, income recovery, lower delinquency or financial outcomes
  • Act as a collections agency

How it works

How we would work with your institution

  1. 1

    Understand the situation

We understand the customer situation or segment and the institution’s need.

  2. 2

Agree on the pilot and its boundaries

We define the group, scope, access, and privacy and data boundaries.

  3. 3

    Review participation and usefulness

We assess pre-agreed indicators without automatic access to personal details.

YoFWD is at an early stage. Scope, eligibility, indicators and boundaries would be defined before any pilot, without guarantees of outcomes.

Clear principles from the start

  • The person decides

Each participant retains control over their path and next steps.

  • Personal privacy

Participation does not automatically open individual conversations or information to the institution.

  • Honest scope

We work within explicit boundaries, without promising coverage, agreements or individual outcomes.
